Putting Defenses Up for Children

thumb it up karen wacky
Crimes against children are everywhere. It can happen to any defenseless child from all walks of life. News about child abuse, abduction, sexual assault and other horrifying transgressions against children are all but alarming concerns that all of us must be wary of. These are real dramas and surely, this offensive incident against children happens often. We ask, how can we let this happen? Children are unguarded to this kind of threat that society must be aware. They need our help.

So what can we do? There are lots actually. Having both a passive and defensive preparation can be of much help, especially for parents everywhere.

For parents, being a little dubious as to whom your children interacts with will keep them away from potential abuse of inappropriate relationships targeted to them. Knowing the warning signs can keep your guard bells ringing if that particular acquaintance of your children can bring harm to them. Moreover, control access as to who are allowed to work with our children. Hiring a nanny for example should not be done laxly. Ask appropriate background checks to be conducted to them, or a criminal background check if necessary to ensure that who looks after your child can be trusted. Controlling access must also include those our children meet in other ways like in the internet through social networking sites and chat rooms. Practice parental guidance over this matter vigilantly.

For school and institution for children, every member of the administration and faculty that is hired must undergo due criminal background check and investigations. After all, as the issues of child abuse become national concern, there are now new laws and provisions that require criminal background check for those who want to work with children. Logically, those who will submit to a background check are those that can be trusted not to harm children. A tight security inside the school or institution should also be heightened.

Protecting our children by putting up our defenses for them will help them grow up unharmed eventually making them realize to protect the children of tomorrow in return.
